A jolly christmas story

Written by me

Citrine yelped as he tumbled out of the dark cave, followed by his sisters; Emerald, Amethyst and Aquamarine. He took of his dusky yellow hat and smoothed his dark navy hair.

"Is everyone okay?" He queried, gazing at his sisters who nodded in turn.

"What is this place?" Asked Emerald, as she gave Amethyst a hand up.

"I have no idea." Replied Citrine. He scanned the area, but it was so unfamiliar compared to the cosy hole they used to live in with the rest of their family.

"I don't like it," Whispered Aquamarine shakily, trembling.

Citrine clutched his yellow sash, and reached his hand inside, but only could find glittering dust the colour of a ripening banana. He closed his eyes tightly and blew on it, but it vanished.

"We must be in another realm," He realised. "Ma always said pixie dust doesn't work in different realms. Everyone, look in your sashes in case there might be something useful!"

He bent down to touch the soft sea-foam ground. It was soft like a blanket, snug and warm. He turned back to his sisters.

Amethyst sighed. "I only brought my paint supplies, sorry Citrine."

"It's okay..."  Citrine murmured. Looking at Amethyst, who's purple-blue clothes were stained with brightly coloured paint, illuminated by the harsh sunlight filtering through a gigantic glass wall.

Aquamarine was still digging through her bag.

Emerald whipped out multicoloured streamers from her bag. She flipped her head back, causing her sage green cap to fall off and revealing minty green locks to match the bag from which she was rummaging.

"Nothing handy, Sorry Cit-" Her sentence was cut off by a triumphant "Aha!" from Aquamarine.

"What is it?" Citrine was trying not to get his hopes up but couldn't contain the excitement that etched itself into his jittery voice.

"My wand! Maybe I can do a spell to get us home!" She waved it gently until small blue sparks sprouted from the tip, but they soon fizzled away. "Don't tell me... Magic doesn't work in different realms either?" She slumped down in defeat, tucking a glossy blue lock of hair behind her pointed ear. "What will Santa say?!" She wailed, fear edging her tone.

A rosy cheeked elf came up behind her and started to braid her deep blue hair.

"It'll be fine, Aquamarine, Citrine will think of something." She soothed.

"Thanks Amethyst. I really hope so, because-"

A loud scream sliced through her sentence like a knife through cake.

"EMERALD! Don't worry, we'll get you!" Citrine called.

Emerald was struggling to break through the tight grip of a giant girl. The girl picked off her hat, shoes and sash and tossed them onto the other elves.

Aquamarine was squealing, Amethyst was crying. Citrine new it was too late.

"Citrine! PLEASE HELP ME!" She let out one last piercing scream as the girl savagely bit off her head.

Citrine collapsed on top of her belongings in a sobbing heap as the girl threw the rest of Emerald's body carelessly into the gaping pit of death.

The girl stomped out of the room, and Citrine sat, tears streaming down his face and onto Emeralds belongings. Amethyst was curled up into a ball, sniffling and combing her stubby fingers through her blonde hair.

Aquamarine was pale, her face still in shock and tears still flowing from hr eyes.

Citrine knew he'd never be able to forgive himself.

Citrine awoke to the sound of the girl who had brutally killed his sister stomped into the room once again.

His mouth gaped open but no noise came out. Amethyst and Aquamarine were already awake, clutching each other tightly, and not daring to look at the girl, their eyes squeezed shut.

Citrine ran as he saw the hand swoop towards him, but the hand was quicker. The girl began to pull him up to her mouth, throwing his hat, shoes and sash like confetti. He could see his sisters opening their red and green eyes and screaming.

"It's too late for me." Citrine murmured. He let out a screech of writhing pain as the girl bit off his legs and faced him towards her mouth, so he could see the glittering yellow blood that was flooding her mouth. He let out one last agonisingly painful pity effort to escape.

A single glistening tear slid down his cheek as he was heaved into her mouth, then darkness fell over him as her sighed his final breath.
